Astronomy News

For those of us interested in astronomy news, there is a vast wealth of resources available on the internet. At first glance, it might seem that astronomy news is an oxymoron. After all, the stars and planets in our sky have been performing their dance across the cosmos long before human beings were even a species! While this fact is true, it is a bit too broad of a generalization. All sorts of glorious action occur in the heavens each day, and for many of us, these events will go on unnoticed. Eclipses, comets, star and planet alignments happen frequently, and all are beautiful and amazing wonders to behold. Some of these occurrences may be mentioned offhand on a news program, or documented in a calendar, but by and large these mind-bogglingly gorgeous events are mostly ignored by the general public. This is an unfortunate situation because there are quite a lot of celestial occurrences that only come once in a lifetime, and sometimes once every few thousand years. Such a rare event should be viewed by everybody on Earth.

Websites are a perfect resource for finding astronomy news. This is because websites are able to be updated constantly, allowing nonstop information to come in whenever necessary. An astronomy book or magazine is static and, while there is plenty of great information to be gleaned from them, they do little to nothing when it comes to preparing us for upcoming phenomena. An example is the rare comet Lulin. This comet is greenish in color and is a wondrous sight to behold. When this comet comes close to the Earth, the raw beauty of nature and the universe is shown in all of its glory. Unfortunately, Lulin passed by in February, and there is no telling when it will return. This is why astronomy news is such an important thing in our culture. More popular comets, like Halleys, are also likely to only appear once in a person's lifetime, and it is important to be aware of when such an occurrence is going to happen.

There are any number of scientific and astronomy-related websites that will inform you of the various upcoming astronomical wonders and astronomy news that will be appearing in a sky near you. Try astronomy.com, wired.com, or simply Google astronomy or upcoming astronomical phenomena. The wonder and beauty of the night sky has captivated humanity for millennia. Do not let some of the skys brightest and boldest offerings fall by the wayside because of a lack of astronomy news. Get your head in the clouds.
